Maine Casino Bill Gets Murdered
As reported by the Portland Press Herald: "A legislative committee voted against an Oxford County casino referendum Wednesday and postponed action on an unrelated slot-machine bill until 2008.
"...At the request of the bill's sponsor, the panel voted 10-0, with three members absent, to postpone action until next year on a referendum authorizing a harness track with slot machines at an unspecified location in southern or western Maine.
"...In the second case, the committee voted 6-4 against a separate bill that seeks a referendum on building a casino at an unspecified location in Oxford County. That bill now goes to the House and Senate, but legislative leaders predicted that it will be killed..."
