New Casino Opens in Macau
The Sydney Morning Herald reported:
"The Macau billionaire Stanley Ho has delivered his multimillion dollar riposte to the influx of US and Australian operators with the opening of the $US384 million ($500 million) Grand Lisboa casino." "The gala opening on Sunday night was attended by Macau's chief executive, Edmund Ho, and came as the once-slumbering Portuguese enclave officially overtook Las Vegas as the world's largest gambling market. "…Thousands queued for a sight of the Grand Lisboa's casino, shaped like a giant neon lotus flower. Dr Ho's new landmark on the waterfront towers over its 1960s predecessor, the original Lisboa, which had been eclipsed by newcomers such as the Sands, the world's biggest casino…"
