LA Gets New Riverboat Casino
After years of St. Mary Parish working to procure Louisiana's 15th and last waterway gambling license, Amelia will soon be home of a riverboat casino. Not only will southern Louisiana residents have a place to gamble, but the boat will also help the economy by directly producing 400 new jobs and another 500 jobs coming as a result of support businesses and operations.
The boat should be at the site on Lake Palourde Road by mid-January 2007.
Currently, he boat is still in Mobile, Ala., for repairs from Hurricane Katrina.
The parish will also receive $1.5 million the day the casino opens its doors, with the amount being increased if the casino makes more than $60 million annually.
