LAS VEGAS (AP) - Morgans Hotel Group Co. said Monday it completed its $770 million purchase of the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas from founder Peter Morton.
The deal is separate from the Seminole Tribe of Florida's $965 million purchase of Hard Rock casinos, restaurants, hotels and memorabilia from London-based Rank Group PLC, which was announced in December. Golden Gaming Inc., which operates PT's taverns and restaurants in Las Vegas and three casinos in Black Hawk, Colo., will operate the casino while Morgans is to operate all other aspects of the business. Scheetz has said the Hard Rock's 647-room hotel and 30,000 square-foot casino on 41 acres about a mile east of the Strip would help the company's entry into the market.
